WEST WINDOW, SUNFIELDS METHODIST CHURCH

Colour, light and texture were an important aspect of the commission to design and make the West Window for the Sunfields Methodist Church in Blackheath, a prominent new landmark building. Through the use of sandblasting the window has compelling tactile qualities, of interest to children in particular. Drawing on the name of the church whilst representing the history of the local area and a number of liturgical themes, the window harmonises with the dominant lines of the architecture. “Laid out in cruciform, the church is defined by a large west facing stained glass window, created using elaborately etched and coloured glazing. The window comes to life at night where the intricate detailing radiates with colour, while in sunlight, the colours play delicately on the internal masonry surfaces”. Architect: bptw
